The Texas Department of Transportation contracted with regional lead agencies to plan for the development and enhancement of coordinated regional public transportation operations and services. Initial funds were contracted in the spring of 2006 for the development of regional coordination plans. Each of Texas’ 24 public transportation planning regions submitted regional coordination plans in December 2006. Subsequent funding in 2007 allowed agencies to continue planning activities. Now, in anticipation of the availability of federal and state funds to support regional transportation coordination planning activities for the period September 1, 2008 through August 31, 2009, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Public Transportation Division (PTN) will administer funding awards to support regional coordination planning activities to improve public transportation services. Applications selected for funding under these awards must support a region’s locally developed, coordinated public transit – human services transportation plan. These funding awards will support approved regional planning activities from the date a project grant agreement is fully executed between TxDOT and respective receiving agencies or September 1, 2008, whichever is later. All grant agreements under this award will terminate August 31, 2009. The Public Transportation Division expects to make available up to $60,000 per planning region to fund regional coordination planning activities. Note that:
